Montreal As A City
Montreal is one of Canada’s largest cities, being the second largest in Canada as a whole and the largest in Quebec. One of only a handful of Canadian cities known worldwide, Montreal is a popular destination for tourists. With a beautiful Dfb climate, there are plenty of outdoor activities you can enjoy if you live there or visit.
Climb Mount Royal
Mount Royal is located in Mount Royal Park. The park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in New York. While the park does contain a hiking path and Beaver Lake, the main attraction here is the mountain itself. You have the choice between climbing on a relatively shallow incline, taking the stairs, or taking the bus up. Regardless of which you choose, you can get a spectacular view of one of the most beautiful cities in the country.
Cross-Country Skiing
If you love this activity, Montreal is the perfect city for you. Montreal has over 100 km of cross-country ski trails, some of which go directly through nature. The earlier mentioned Mount Royal Park, Parc Le Fontaine, Maisonneuve Park, Frederic-Back Park, Parc Jean-Drapeau, Jarry Park, and more. Some of these offer you the ability to rent skis; the others you must bring your own, so be sure to find out which you’re going to attend first.
Snowshoeing
Again, there are numerous trails for snowshoeing in Montreal. Mount Royal Park once again makes an appearance (I guess if you just have a day in Montreal, go here), along with Lachine Canal, Parc La Fontaine, Parc Angrignon, Parc Nature De I’ll De La VIsitation, and more.
Dog Sledding
A bit more expensive, since this is something that most people will not be able to ‘bring their own’ for (most people don’t have several trained snow dogs). However, with several places, you can absolutely find the best price for you in this amazingly Canadian activity.
Montreal Zipline
Bored of Mount Royal Park? Do I have something for you? Half an hour of ziplining over the St. Lawrence River? Sign me up. You must be between 50 and 250 lbs (sorry for the American measurement; it’s what I was able to find). All ages are welcome as long as they’re within the stated weight range, and no reservation is needed, so it’s a great place to drop by on impulse if you wish.
Visit Montreal Botanical Garden
With over 190 acres of land, divided into Chinese, Japanese, First Nation and Alpine gardens, and over 22,000 species of plants, you can easily spend over 2 hours exploring the land.
